Even if you lost all of your Outlook contacts, mailbox is unavailable, or PST data file is corrupted, there is still a way to restore some addresses. Each time you send a message, Outlook stores message recipients in AutoComplete Lists. These lists are used to fill the recipients into Outlook email messages quickly.
This report will help to get a list of contacts from the Auto-Complete List files. In Outlook 2007 and below, Auto-Complete Lists are stored in NK2 files. In Outlook 2010 and higher, Auto-Complete Lists are stored in mailboxes and PST files, and in the DAT files for compatibility with older applications. Out of all these files, you can get a list of contacts, names and email addresses. You can save this report to a CSV file and then open it for viewing in Excel. By default, the report uses the standard Outlook data folder and shows how many items are in the AutoComplete files found. In a detailed mode, the report displays all contacts stored in each file. It shows name, email (including X.500), and other fields for each contact.
You can use the command line to get contacts from AutoComplete cache files, which are available on the local network. You can also write the required scripts and batch files to automate the process. |

Even if all Outlook contacts are lost or an angry employee deleted a customer base, there is another way to restore important contacts. Every time you send a message, Outlook stores selected recipients in Auto-Complete Lists and keeps them there, until they are deleted manually. These data are not available anywhere else, and many users are unaware this is not the Outlook contacts, but individual data.
This report shows the number of contacts in AutoComplete lists for all connected mailboxes and accounts in Outlook 2010 and above. In advanced mode, the report shows all contacts for each account in your Outlook profile: name, email address (including X.500), and other fields. The creation of this report is the easiest way to save all the information from the Auto-Complete Lists to a CSV file. The result is a ready-made contact list you can open in Excel, edit, and import back into Outlook contacts. This is an easy way to restore contacts with email addresses from AutoComplete Lists in case of loss of the contact list.
The utility can be useful in investigations and security audits. Auto-Complete Lists are stored inside the mailboxes, and there are no standard Outlook tools for viewing or editing them. Even if users delete all messages and contacts, they often forget about Auto-Complete Lists, which clearly shows recent recipients. If you don''t want to leave any contacts on the computer, run this report, and make sure you haven''t forgotten to delete anything.

Outlook does not offer convenient ways to fill or modify Auto-Complete Lists. You can delete contacts from the Auto-Complete List one by one or clear the Auto-Complete List. The easiest way to manage Auto-Complete Lists contents is using Outlook contacts.
This utility saves Outlook contacts to Auto-Complete cache files in XML or NK2 format in the selected folder. By default, all contacts from selected Outlook folders are stored in one Auto-Complete file, without duplicate emails. If you specify the option to create a separate file for each folder, contacts will be saved in Auto-Complete files, named as the contact folders. Another option to save is simply select the desired contacts and export them, using the Outlook context menu.
If there are no contacts in your Outlook, then you can retrieve them from existing e-mail messages by using the "Save Email Addresses to Contact Folder" utility. |

Sometimes, because of failed migrations or mistakes, important contacts in Outlook contacts folders may be lost. Although contacts are gone, some contacts can still be recovered from the Auto-Complete List cache files.
This free utility creates Outlook contacts from Auto-Complete Lists. If the folder with Auto-Complete files is not specified, the utility uses a default folder with Outlook data files for the current user. All contacts found in NK2, DAT, and XML Auto-Complete files will be imported into the specified contact folder. When importing, the utility checks contacts for duplicates; same addresses are ignored. If you have several Auto-Complete List files (for example, for different Outlook profiles or users), there is an option to create separate contact folders for each AutoComplete file. In this case, multiple subfolders will be created in the destination folder named after imported files. The utility imports each Auto-Complete List file into the appropriate folders. Sending emails in one action is useful in many cases.
